Statement of the Egyptian Parties Coalition in response to European Parliament Resolution No. 2962 of 2022on Human Rights in Egypt
\nWhy Egypt??!
\nThe Coalition of Egyptian Parties, which includes 42 political parties, categorically rejects the disappointing statement of the European Parliament whichshows the EP’s “unjustified insistence” on continuing its imperative and tutelary approach towards Egypt by issuing a decision that includes lies, fabrications, and untrue and unjustified allegations – and gives itself the right to interfere in Egyptian internal affairs.
\nThe coalition also stresses its support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi\u2013 the EgyptianArmed Forces, the Egyptian Police, the great Egyptian judiciary; the coalition alsostands in solidarity with the statement of the Egyptian Parliament, which expresses the people of Egypt.
\nThe coalition poses a question to the European Parliament (Why Egypt?)
\nThe resolution of the European Parliament came very far from the facts and human rights and was based on a package of inaccuracies and false allegations that have nothing to do with reality, and that it only reflects a biased view of the real conditions in Egypt. Rather, it is a statement directed against Egypt and Egyptians:
\n\u2022 The resolution stated that the state of emergency has been applied in Egypt since 2017, the truth is that the state of emergency was suspended in October 2021 and has not been renewed since then.
\n\u2022 The resolution dealt with Egypt’s alleged imposition and implementation of the death penalty against children. This is unrealistic and unbelievable, as Egyptian legislation under the Child Law prohibits the imposition of “sentence to death, life imprisonment or aggravated imprisonment” on children.
\n\u2022 The European Parliament ignored the release of detainees;it also ignored what is happening on the ground in terms of successive releases of detainees, whose number exceeded 1,200 prisoners.
\n\u2022 The European Parliament’s decision also neglected the role of the Presidential Pardon Committee and the state’s implementation of the national strategy for human rights, and the role of the National Dialogue that groups all political and civil parties.
\n\u2022 The European Parliament neglected the development and eradication of slums and the launch of decent life program to improve the life of the citizen and his right to a decent life.
\n\u2022 The European Parliament neglected Egypt’s embrace of the refugees and that Egypt is their second country, in contrast to what is happening in some other countries that leave the refugees prey to weather factors, hunger and insecurity.
\n\u2022 The European Parliament has also neglected to praise or refer to efforts made by Egypt to render successful the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC hosted by Sharm El Sheikh city. Egypt has proven to the whole world its notable success in hosting that great global event, with unprecedented wide participation, resulting in tangible results that expressed the needs and demands of the entire world to save the planet.
\n\u2022 The European Parliament ignored the role of Egypt in achieving security and safety for delegations, which is one of the most important human rights.
\n\u2022 The European Parliament ignored the recommendations of the Climate Conference which serve the benefit of people everywhere, bearing in mind that Western countries are the countries that most negatively affect the climate and do not take into account human rights.
\n\u2022 The Coalition confirms that human rights did not and will not stop if an accused person released from prison;in addition, we see human rights in a broader sense, particularly, the security and safety of the Egyptian citizen.Massive sacrifices are made by the honorable sons of Egypt from the Egyptian armed forces and police to keep the lives of the Egyptian citizens. Isn\u2019t security and safety a human right?!
\n\u2022 The Coalition of Egyptian Parties, a political alliance that consists of around 40 parties which are different in ideologies, visions but share common views on all the issues of the Egyptian society, asserts that we live in an era of complete freedom of expression and respect for the law.
\nAt last, the Coalition of Egyptian Parties categorically rejects European Parliament’s resolution on human rights situation in Egypt which contained inaccuracies and false allegations.<\/p>\n
